Obituary of Helga Ross

Helga Ross, 89, of Las Vegas, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018. Helga was born March 16, 1929 in Dortmund, Germany and was a Holocaust survivor. She is the daughter of the late Bernard and the late Minna (Jakubowitsch) Schneider. She came to the U.S. in 1939 and faced adversity not speaking any English, yet she graduated in 1947 as Salutatorian from Marshall High School in St. Paul, MN. After being set up on a blind date for a friend's wedding, Helga and Hal married in 1952 in Upland, CA. Helga was the most understanding and loving wife, and she was very particular with her appearance and was always presentable and polished. As a Mother, she was jokingly known to her children as "the meanest mom on the block." She had a great sense of humor; she had a quick wit, and was loving to her family and found that motherhood was the most important job. Hal and Helga previously lived in Canoga Park (Westhills), CA before moving to and residing in Las Vegas for 25 years. She is survived by her husband, Harold "Hal" Ross; children, Glenn Ross, Craig (Elizabeth) Ross, David (Ilona) Ross, Nancy Ross, and Susan (Kyle) Mock,; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The funeral will be held 12:00 pm on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV.
