Obituary of Phillip Abraham Nevins

Phillip "Phil" Nevins Following a brief illness, Phil, age 91, passed away on October 8, 2018. Phil was born in Minneapolis, MN to Fanny and Ruben Neviasky. During his childhood, he grew up in North Minneapolis surrounded by family and friends with whom he remained connected with his entire life. Phil attended the University of Minnesota and served in the Coast Guard during WII. His early adult years included living in Dallas, TX; Madison, WI; and Phoenix, AZ. His work included owning a drugstore in Phoenix and then lived in the Bay Area/Northern CA from 1965-1989 working in the wholesale drug industry selling personal care and sundry products. When he considered retirement, he was told by his cousin, Jake Haman, about a new development being built in Las Vegas—Sun City, Summerlin! Phil happily spent his nearly 29 years of retirement golfing, going to shows, and bowling at the Suncoast, which he enjoyed even after his 90th birthday. He was a founding member of two synagogues in Sun City: Temple Bet Knesset Bamidbar and Temple Bet Emet. He was also activity involved in the Jewish War Veterans Murray L. Rosen Post 64. Phil loved dogs, he had several and all dogs loved him! He stopped to greet each and every one he encountered. He loved to visit the pups at Boca Park just for a little puppy love. He especially loved "Reno" at his local dry cleaners. Phil loved his grandchildren and was so excited about having a Dr. in the family, as his granddaughter is in her last year of Veterinary Medicine. Phil was outgoing, friendly and had a joyful spirit. He will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched. Phil his survived by his constant companion of the last 11 years, Sally Birman, his children Jeff (Visalia, CA), and Kim (Denver, CO), grandchildren Erik Bromley (Denver, CO), Alan Nevins (Portland, OR) and Heather Nevins (Ames, IA), sister Marcella Kahn (Del Ray Beach, FL) and her children Randy, Leslie and Tracy, and Step-Daughter Cathy Herrera (Merced, CA) and her children Eloise, Christina and Santiago. Phil was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Phyllis. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 10:40 a.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder, City, NV.
