Obituary of Peter Mason Rich, Sr.

Peter Mason Rich, Sr. died peacefully in hospice care on Friday, June 1, 2018 in Las Vegas, NV, at the age of 68. Born on June 7, 1949 in Pittsburgh, PA to Alice Elizabeth Young Rich and James Lawther Rich, Peter was one of nine children. He graduated from Avonworth High School in Pittsburgh, PA, and earned a BA in Economics followed by an MBA in Finance from St. Louis University in pursuit of a career in business logistics management. Peter is survived by his wife, Mary Helen (née Prindible), and his children: Emily (David Camras), Elizabeth (Brandon Woo), Katherine (Adegoke Adeyemi), and Peter, Jr. (Stephanie Cowling). He is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Alice, Adam, Anthony, Andrew, Jeremy, Adewale, Adeshola, Adegbola, Adetunde, Eliana, Adesegun, and Savion. He is also survived by siblings Alison, Janet, Anne Louise, Priscilla, Cynthia, and James. He is predeceased by granddaughter Aderele (2017), by his brothers Thomas (2000) and William Denison (2006), and by his mother (2002) and father (1980). Peter loved camping, kayaking, fishing, politics, cooking, gardening, golfing, long road trips, and traveling the world with Mary Helen, to whom he was married for 45 loving years. He was proud to have run two marathons and to have spent meaningful time visiting and exploring all 50 states. Peter held a special place in his heart for Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park, where he returned regularly after first seeing it on a cross-country family road trip as a boy. A lifelong Catholic, Peter had a special devotion to St. Joseph. Peter was the proud father of four children, in whom he sought to instill a sense of curiosity, adventure, responsibility, faith, and love for nature. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 at St. Joachim Catholic Church, 1964 Orange Ave., Costa Mesa, CA 92627. Peter's final resting place will be at Melrose Abbey Mortuary, 2303 South Manchester Ave., Anaheim, CA 92802.
