Obituary of Mildred Sklar

Mildred Sklar, age 89, of Las Vegas, passed away at home surrounded by family on March 13, 2018, after a brief illness. Mildred was born February 8, 1929 in Brooklyn NY to the late Hyman and the late Sylvia (Schwartzberg) Lerman. Mildred was a licensed social worker and worked as the discharge coordinator at Old Bridge Hospital in New Jersey for 30 years. A life-long learner, Mildred earned masters' degrees in speech pathology and social work and, in later years, developed a passion for learning about and exploring functional medicine and nutrition related to her health and the health of those she loved. She was a talented cook who baked natural and healthy goodies to share with others, dehydrating nuts and fruits and sharing her knowledge about nutritional supplements. Mildred was an engaged citizen of the world and she and her late husband traveled extensively, often with Elderhostels as well as cruises. As a volunteer for several years in Nevada elementary schools, she helped children learn to read. She long enjoyed an active lifestyle and was a keen dancer and a regular fixture in the workout room. She is survived by her sons Stuart (Amy) Sklar of Harvard MA and Bruce (Sherri) Sklar of Vienna VA; and grandchildren Mitchell Sklar and Nina Sklar. She is predeceased by her husband Louis Sklar and sister Fannie. A funeral service will be held at 10:40 AM on March 14, 2018 at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., in Boulder City, NV.
