To Anna, Jake, Georgia Sue, Uncle Harold, Linda, family members and friends:
We extend our deepest sympathy and pray that our HEAVENLY FATHER WILL COMFORT AND HEAL each of you at this very sad and difficult time.
Though, unfortunately, due to military service, age difference and distance,
we never had the privilege to know him, the beautiful tribute to Darel David makes clear
that he was one of a kind..... a very special gentleman with a warm and loving personality, intelligent, dedicated to his family and a truly patriotic proud American!
He shall be missed by so many; however, the many precious memories remain forever, and hopefully will provide smiles, laughter and sunshine...even thru the tears.
We feel so very Blessed to have called him ‘Cousin’, and though we, too, mourn the
loss, we celebrate his life, as well!
Keeping each of you in our ‘thoughts and prayers’,
G. W. and Carol Woods Colorado Springs

Darel was my baby brother, I was given charge of him when I was 7, he was like mine. I took him everywhere with me, did ridiculous things to make him laugh, and spent MY allowance money on HIM.
We remained friends throughout our lives! He lived with me on three different occasions. When I was 18 and Darel was 11,my Dad had to go to Canada to work, and then after I was married and living in Amarillo Texas, ( I was 20, Darel was 13). And finally when he got out of the Navy, we lived in El Paso Texas that time.
Darel moved to Midland, after his time with us in El Paso, enrolled in school and became a nurse. Eventually met and married Anna and they had Jake. He was proud of his family, He told me that they were the best thing he ever accomplished and they were the best part of his life.
Darel has always been a vocal conservative. And passionate about America and all that makes America Great. His love of history was evident, and his memory was unsurpassed. When he would talk about moments in history he did not leave out a detail! He knew who did what and when they did it. I know because we spent hours on the phone with me listening and him doing most of the talking. He was very well informed and very interesting.
He remembered events in his life in just as much detail. It amazed me! He would recall the date and time and where he was and what he was doing when certain things happened. He could not understand the fact that I only remember things in general (nothing specific) It drove him crazy. He told me that he wrote several legal pads full of stories that he remembered about his life. I’m glad he did, his spirit lives on in those stories.
I will miss his wealth of information on anything and everything, if he didn’t know, he would research and get back to me. He did his homework on anything he ever bought, he would know every detail of what made it the best, and Darel believed in buying the best
If you have known my brother very long, you probably know he collected anything “Superman” and Star Trek. He knew everything about both series from their inception, including personal details about each character. Then there was Elvis
His love of Superman started when He was about 3 years old. Our Grandmother made him a superman costume and he wore it everywhere ALL THE TIME! He thought he WAS Superman! And I was worried he would jump off of something really high and get hurt. He would climb up on top of anything he could find and jump off, then get really disappointed when he did NOT fly!
He asked me to go through some of his things when I came to visit him recently. It was inspiring to see his collections And as Jake and I looked through one of the boxes I found what was left of the Superman costume with the backward S that Grandma made. (great memory)
His introduction to Elvis was through me and Steve, I remember arguing over a broken radio you had to hold to your ear just to listen to the latest Elvis hit. So, of course he wanted his turn and a fan was born and what a fan. --- Darel did not ask for holidays off when he was working, but he DID take off on Elvis’s birthday every year!!
Last but not least, who doesn’t like Star Trek? We watched it together for the first few episodes. After that we would discuss it now and then. And the movies were great!
Darel had a quiet, but abiding faith in God. We talked about it often. I am certain that he now walks with our Lord and has no more worries or pain.
So I end this tribute to my brother by saying as Spock said to Kirk “ I am and have always been your friend”

Colonel Harold B Woods posted a condolence
Monday, March 12, 2018
By way of introduction my name is Colonel Harold B Woods. I am a Senior Career Officer in the US Air Force. I am the proud Uncle of Darel David Woods. During my long service career I have never known a more devoted person who so loved his Country and his family. Darel was a very conservative American citizen who respected our country and its laws. I have cherished the years that Darel and I have been family and friends. I will miss him dearly and extend all my love to his family.
