Obituary of Helen Mary Olechny

Helen M. Olechny, resident of Las Vegas, Nevada since 1993, formerly of Antioch, Illinois and Chicago, Illinois. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Las Vegas, St. Peter in Antioch, and Holy Innocents in Chicago. Helen was the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Mary Wsol, born July 4, 1917 in Chicago, and beloved wife of the late John J. Olechny, married June 25, 1938. She was the sister to the late Bernice (Frank) Murphy and the late Frank (Florence) Wsol. A loving and dedicated mother to Robert (Tillie) of Ballwin, MO; Patricia (James) Travis of Reno, NV; John (Carol) of Elmhurst, IL; Eileen (George) Duty of Cicero, IL; and Carolyn of Las Vegas; loving grandmother to Christy (Thomas) Parker, Karen (Stephen) Aragon, Cheryl (Matthew) Kirschmann, Joanna Meyer, John Meyer, and Valerie (Daniel) Perreault; loving great-grandmother to Jaclyn Parker, Brandy Parker, Elizabeth Aragon, Michael Aragon, and Katie Kirschmann; and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was caring and thoughtful to her many cousins and friends. Helen had many jobs through the years, and is fondly remembered as the owner of the Blackstone Grocery Store on Walton Street in Chicago from 1947 to 1962. But Helen's most favorite job was being a Teacher Aide for Primary Grades at Grass Lake School in Antioch, IL from 1980-1992. She was the recipient of the 1992 Award of Recognition and a flowering crab tree was planted and dedicated to her for Helen's years of service. "The Best Years of my Life", Helen would say about this rewarding job. Helen loved sewing and was talented with many crafts. She crocheted blankets, scarves, hats, slippers; and made trinkets and ornaments. Who doesn't have a 'Homemade Helen' item! She loved to garden, have fun and tell jokes, always smiling and laughing. Her favorite wish for everyone was "STO LAT". We will miss all the fun we had. Helen was a great cook. No one has ever made the delicious meatloaf that she did on top of the stove. When you came to her house, there was always room for desserts. She was a thoughtful hostess and everyone will always remember her meals at special occasions. Mom, you were an inspiration to all that knew you, the Matriarch of our family, truly an end to an era, but your legacy will continue forever. We love you Mom.
