Obituary of Rosalie Cohen

Rosalie Cohen, age 87, an 11 year resident of Las Vegas, passed away Monday, December 27. Rosalie was born February 2, 1923 in Pittsburgh PA to the late Benjamin and the late Pauline (Kaufman) Agger. Rosalie earned an MA in Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh, where she initially worked as a professor. She continued her career at Temple University as a professor of Sociology and Education. Dr. Cohen was considered an innovator of cognitive theory and conceptual styles, delivering numerous papers and traveling worldwide to share her ideas. Rosalie raised five children, all of whom, she was proud to say, attained professional careers in law, medicine and engineering. She was active in conservation organizations. She is survived by one daughter: Anita Marilyn Cohen of Las Vegas; four sons: Michael Cohen of Santa Monica CA, Joel (Hope) Cohen of Bakersfield CA, parents of Adam, Rebecca and Joshua, Brian (Rita) Cohen of Fresno CA and David Cohen of North Carolina, father of Craig. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, December 30 at Kraft-Sussman Funeral Services, 3975 S. Durango Drive, Suite 104, Las Vegas NV. Burial will be in Beth Hamedrash Hagodal Cemetery in McKees Rocks PA on Sunday, January 2. Contributions in Rosalie's memory may be made to the Jewish National Fund, Best Friends Animal Shelter, or a conservation or animal protection nonprofit of the donor's choice.
