Ted was a renown scholar. But more than that - he was exceptional person. In the global world there seems to be something that even transcends the power of knowledge. And it is, the power of the ethics in human relations. Thank you, Ted, for having being among those reintroducing it to our world to enlighten it. Peace and light to your soul.
Heartfelt condolence to your family.

Barbara and Family, I offer my sincere condolences in your loss of Ted. My mother, Marguerite (Dickey) Stapleton, stayed in contact with Ted's mom, Anne, until she passed and held the highest of respect for her and her entire family. I wish I had had the privilege of having met your husband/father in person. I am a genealogist and feel I know you all through having studied all of the Cook family.

Ted was a great mentor to me, arriving at U. Maryland just a year after I did and offering courses in a new (to me), fascinating area of ethnic and civil conflict. It got me interested enough in a few topics to decide to stay at Maryland for a PhD. -- which he supervised, of course! One of my favorite memories was visiting Ted and Barbara in Leiden, Netherlands in 1993 and enjoying some great food and drink together. He was always about the food and drink! May his memory be eternal!
