Obituary of Nicholas Joseph Dincecco
Nicholas J. Dincecco (Nick) died on May 11, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV from dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease. He was 95 years old. Nick was born on October 22, 1921 in the North End of Boston, MA to Luigi and Romilda D’Incecco, immigrants from the Abruzzo region of Italy. He was the youngest of five brothers, Dini, Mini, Tony, Dardo, and Willy, and had a younger sister, Olga. Nick married Edith Scheri (Eadie) of Everett, MA on April 15, 1945 in Cambridge, MA. They were married for 63 years until her death on April 10, 2008.
Nick was the first of his family to graduate from college. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and a Master’s degree from Boston University, along with other post-graduate work. Nick ran several small businesses before becoming a math teacher at Lexington High School, where he taught for 27 years. He retired in 1983 and moved with Eadie to Floral Lakes Estates, an adult community in Bartow, Florida, where he enjoyed life for more than 30 years. Nick and Eadie had many good friends in both Bartow and Massachusetts. Throughout their retirement, they liked traveling to their summer place in Carver, MA, cruise ship vacations, and visiting relatives and friends.
Nick was a dedicated teacher who strongly believed in the power of education to transform lives. He was committed to the success of his students. Nick was an optimistic, sociable, and helpful person with a wonderful sense of humor. He was self-taught in home improvement, enjoyed working with his hands, and completed many remodeling projects for both family members and friends. Nick’s favorite form of relaxation was watching movies on television, particularly Westerns. Even if he had dozed off, he would always wake up if someone changed the channel! Nick was always smiling, and brought smiles to the face of a great many others during his long life. His joyful spirit will be deeply missed by all. Nick truly was a remarkable man.
Nick is survived by his loving children, Robert (Dorothy) and Paula (John Morthanos), grandchildren, Mark (Kimberly) and Michelle (Charles), great-grandchildren (Julien, Nico, Ilo, Roman) and the Morthanos cats (Greta, Garbo and Casey.)
A funeral mass will be held for Nick at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Church (7260 W. Sahara Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89117) at 10am on Friday, June 9, 2017.
The family kindly requests that any memorial donations be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice (4141 Swenson Street, Las Vegas, NV 89119) or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA).
Finally, the family offers many thanks to all for their sincere condolences during this time of loss.
