Obituary of Evelyn Marie McClendone

Evelyn Marie McClendone, age 81, of Las Vegas (formerly Chicago IL) passed away Friday, October 22, 2010. Evelyn was born July 21, 1929 in Chicago, IL. She is the daughter of the late Cleveland and the late Emma (Hogan) Smith. Evelyn was a loving, caring and generous woman. She raised her children while working full time as a US Postal Service superintendent. She was a lifelong learner and taught her children the meaning of a good education. Evelyn had a strong belief in God and was an active member and gospel choir participant of the St. Benedict the African Church in Chicago IL and a member of St. James Catholic Church in Las Vegas. Evelyn was everyone's rock, with open arms for all. She is survived by her four daughters Janet A McClendone of Las Vegas, NV, Daveda A Russell of Las Vegas, NV, Amy Love-Augustus of Merrillville, IN and Karen King of Chicago, IL; sisters Helen Arttaway of Riverdale IL and Thelma Bush of Chicago IL; grandchildren Lavell Love, Antuan Love, Mecca Brown, Alexis Brown, Julius Russell and Daveda Russell, Evelynkathlene Mapps, Joseph King, Jonathan King-Williams, Katie McClendone, Lisa McClendone, Jasmine McClendone, Latrice McClendone, Britney McClendone and Alexandria McClendone; 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and spouses. Evelyn is predeceased by her husband Roscoe McClendone, son Steven McClendone, and longtime companion, Clarence Curry .
