Obituary of Brenda Bharier

Brenda Bharier, age 63, passed away January 14, 2011. Brenda was born November 5, 1947 in Montreal to the late Phillip and the late Rachel (Sacks) Zyk. Brenda received her bachelors and masters degrees in microbiology from McGill University in Montreal. After performing research there and at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, she worked in immunology at the University of Cincinnati and University of Iowa. She trained in medical technology in California and worked in that area, first at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica then at various labs in Los Angeles and finally in Las Vegas for Quest Labs. She learned Yiddish and Hebrew at the Jewish Peoples School in Montreal (The Yiddishe Folkshule). She loved Israeli and Balkan dancing and folk music. She enjoyed the work of Leonard Cohen, a fellow Montrealer. She was very active in Hadassah in Las Vegas and made real friendships here. She loved travel and took her daughters on cruises and other trips including Alaska, the Caribbean, Thailand and Hong Kong. She enjoyed her Mah Jong and her knitting. Brenda is survived by her daughters Leah Bharier of Las Vegas and Sarah Bharier of Los Angeles and her sisters Naomi (Natan) Citri of Jerusalem, Israel and Arlene Wohl of San Rafael CA. A graveside service was held on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at 12:30 PM at Davis Memorial Park, 6200 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89119.
