Obituary of Theodore Newman

Ted Newman, 72, passed away Dec. 31, 2010, at Nathan Adelson Hospice. He was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Kings County, N.Y., and resided in Nevada for 28 years. A U.S. Navy Veteran who spent 40 years in the restaurant business. His career began in Newport News, Va., where he rose from store manager to area manager for the Bob's Big Boy chain. He also worked in management positions with Kentucky Fried Chicken. Upon moving to Nevada in the mid 80's he was co-owner of Newman's Deli in Reno. For over a decade he worked in the casino industry, even opening up and working for the New York, New York Casino until 3 years ago. Ted is survived by four children, Cy (Brenda) of Whitmore Lake, Mich., Lisa (Dennis) Speirs of Las Vegas, Tammy (Ryan) Chavez of Pueblo, Colo., and David (Gloria) of Zepherhills, Fla.; with six grandchildren (one now serving in Iraq); and one great-grandchild. A man with great humor and warmth he leaves his brothers, Mike of Fairfax, Va., Joe of Indianapolis, Rich of Las Vegas, and Dave of Reno; and sisters, Pat Newman of San Diego, Jesi Steward of Tahoe City, Calif., Valerie Newman of Sierra Madre, Calif., and Laurie Coleman of Las Vegas.
