Obituary of Maureen Evelyn Walton

Maureen Evelyn Sweeney Walton (92) of Las Vegas, NV died peacefully with her family surrounding her on July 17, 2017. She was born October 26, 1924 in Clearfield, Iowa. She was the third daughter in a family of 11 children. She grew up in Iowa graduating from Conway High School in 1942. She attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, Iowa. She then joined her sister, Margaret, in Washington, DC during the war where she worked for the FBI. She moved to Denver, Colorado and married John F. "Jack" Walton there on June 6, 1948. This union was blessed with 4 loving children: Michael, Colleen, John, and Mark. Maureen was active in her church and her children's lives until their graduation from high school and college. She then went back to work, retiring from the Veterans Administration in Denver. After her retirement in 1987, Maureen and her husband Jack moved to Las Vegas to be with their family. Maureen always had a smile for everyone and always made everyone feel part of her family. She was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Those left to cherish her memory and celebrate how she touched their lives include Colleen (Jim) Fletcher of Las Vegas; John of Las Vegas; Mark (Mary Ellen) of Leawood, Kansas. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Debie Walton, her sister Carol (Ron) Steininger of Alameda, California, and brother Stephen (Sandy) Sweeney of Lenox, Iowa. Her numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends also mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her son Mike, her grandson Johnnie, her parents Frank and Ellen, and eight brothers and sisters. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 9, from 6-8 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Kraft-Sussman Funeral Home, 3975 South Durango Drive, Suite 104, Las Vegas, NV 89147, (702) 485-6500. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday, August 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Dr., Las Vegas, NV 89128 (702) 228-8311. Interment will be Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd, Boulder City, NV 89005, (702) 486-5920.
