Obituary of Esther Mayon

Esther Mayon, age 92, of Las Vegas, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Esther was born May 31, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Max and the late Anna Mayon. She worked as Chief Financial Officer for Beck-Ross Communications in Long Island, NY. Esther enjoyed showing and breeding English Springer Spaniels. When speaking of Esther, Ellie Hazinski writes, “Esther Mayon was my employer and my dearest friend. We spent many an hour together in a small office in West Babylon, New York, working for Beck Ross Communications, which was the parent company of a few radio stations on Long Island, Hartford, Conn, Flint, Michigan and others gained during my time there. Esther always had her hand out to help me in time of need and I have always been thankful to her for that. We had a lot of laughs working in that small smoke filled room, it also kept a lot of people from coming into the office asking for things. Esther was a real animal lover, she loved her Springer Spaniels which she showed at various events around the country. Her cats were her pride and joy, we would laugh and say if we died we wanted to come back as one of Esthers animals. I will fondly remember her as a person who meant so much to me and Bob and I will miss her terribly.” Friend Paula writes, “My dear friend Sandy had a wonderful mother, Martha, who loved to sew. Martha worked for a bridal shop in Babylon. When Martha died, she left a huge number of bolts of fabric. Sandy does not sew, but she knew Esther and knew she enjoyed sewing. So, she invited us over to her house, and told Esther she could have whatever fabric she wanted, but that she had to take full bolts. Esther poked around and found a few bolts she liked. When Esther got home, she unrolled one of the bolts, and found that Martha had begun to make a bathrobe for Sandy with that fabric, but never finished it. The half-made bathrobe was rolled around the bolt of fabric. Esther decided to complete the bathrobe, gift wrapped it, and put a note in it to Sandy that said “from your mom and me” …. It was the nicest thing I can recall her ever doing, and Sandy was moved to tears.” Esther is survived by her son Fred Cohen of Scottsdale, AZ; step-daughter Rochell Carol Wheeler of Trevor, WI; nephews Jerry Katz and Jan Mayon; and nieces Arlene Mogilefsky and Fern Rothschild. A Celebration of Life for west coast friends and family will be held at Kraft Sussman Funeral & Cremation Services, 3975 S Durango Dr. #104, Las Vegas, NV 89147 on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 3:30pm.
