Earl “Scotty” Scott, Jr., age 82, of Las Vegas, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017. He was born August 16, 1934 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to the late Earl and Ethel Scott. Earl attended grade school through high school in the New Brunswick School District. He was part of a group of young black men that during segregation formed a team of young athletes called “The Marauders” who played various sports throughout all his school age years. Although his mother passed at the age he was 16 years, he pushed forward to graduate high school. Earl married his wife Rebecca Jean Parks on November 17, 1968. Earl joined the United States Air Force in 1953 and was assigned to the 150 1st Communications and Electronics Maintenance Squadron. He was an aircraft electrician and repaired and replaced all aircraft electrical systems. He fought in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and had a combat related injury caused by Agent Orange. He retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1973. His service in the Air Force afforded him the ability to travel all over the world to various places such as Algeria, Thailand, France, Philippines, Germany and Belgium and many other countries. He loved to travel and was always known to venture off by himself to take many pictures of the places he traveled. He always had a camera in his hands. Earl loved education and he eventually continued his education with Riverside Community College and graduated with an A.A. in Administration of Justice in 1975 and then attended California State College, San Bernardino where he graduated in 1978 with a degree in Bachelor of Arts with a major in Criminal Justice. In 1999, he and his wife decided to make their retirement home in Henderson, NV and he resided there until his passing. Earl also loved black history and would often tell stories of what it was like growing up as a child in New Jersey and in his travels around the world. In his spare bedroom you would find numerous books on black history going back through many, many years. He was an avid reader and loved to read just about anything. He was extremely proud to see in his lifetime an African American president. On October 16, 1995 he was a participant in The Million Black Man March that took place in Washington D.C. Earl loved sports, and his favorite teams were the Lakers and the Raiders. Mr. Scott was a gentle giant who loved and took great care of his family.
