Obituary of Howard Landers

Howard Landers, 91, a 44 year resident of Las Vegas, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Howard was born February 18, 1926 in Sioux City IA to the late Abraham and the late Ida Lebowich. He enlisted in the Naval Air Force at 17 years of age and saw combat in the South Pacific during WWII. Howard was an aerial gunner on 13 combat missions during his 26 months in the South Pacific aboard a PBM5A Patrol Bomber, a Martin Mariner Sea Plane, with Crew 11. He earned 2 Bronze Stars and 2 Air Medals. After the Navy, he earned his degree from the University of Iowa, and had been a member of the alumni association ever since. Howard supervised the kosher department at Sioux City Dressed Beef Co, then moved to Santa Maria CA in 1960 and opened a toy & hobby store. After moving to Las Vegas in 1973, he managed a health spa at a major hotel then worked as a manager for Pulte Del Webb. Howard was a 32nd Degree Mason and 60 year member of Landmark Lodge, Number 103 in Sioux City. He loved music and was an accomplished piano player and composer. Howard always said "the secret to a good marriage is respect". He was passionate about his family, especially the love of his life, his wife, Marilyn. Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years Marilyn; children Sherri, Carol (Carl) and Julie (Howard); grandchildren Jason, Brooke (Joe), Heather (Danny) and Jeremy; great grandson Miles; nephews Bart Cohen and Terry Cohen, Scott (Karen) Bronston and Mitch Bronston, and many other great nephews, great nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his siblings and in-laws Anne and Art Cohen, Jan and Art Bronston, Ben and Grace Lebowich. The funeral will be at 9:20 am on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV.
