Obituary of James "Buddy" Philip Goodman

James P. (Buddy) Goodman, one of the few living members of the Greatest Generation, a long time resident of Starkville, Mississippi, and resident of Las Vegas, Nevada since October, 2010, died, January 25, 2017. James was born September 18, 1923, to Beulah and Arthur L. Goodman, Sr. Buddy graduated from Starkville High School and attended Mississippi State University until he was drafted into the Army. Sgt. Goodman proudly served in Hawaii and Okinawa during World War II. Buddy was associated with the family business, known as the Rex Theatre Co. In later years he joined the Peoples Bank, which later became NBC Bank, where he retired after 19-1/2 years as Vice President and Purchasing Agent. He was respected for his integrity, work ethic, humor, kindness, and generosity to everyone. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Bulldog Club, Quarterback Club, Mississippi State University Patron of Excellence, MSU Alumni Club, and Lions Club. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents: his stepmother, Velma L. Goodman; his brother, Arthur L. Goodman, Jr.; and his beloved wife of almost 71 years, Esther M. Goodman. He is survived by his loving daughter, Sandra Goodman Segel (Rabbi Kenneth) of Las Vegas, Nevada; granddaughter, Bree Pessin (Adam), great-grandchildren, Zoe and Jake Pessin of Encino, California; Sister-in-law, Faye M. Westmark (Ron); and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes, a private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Burial will take place in Starkville. The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Summerlin Hospital for their excellent care, and especially the nurses of 4 West.
