Obituary of Irene Florence Henry

Irene Florence Henry (nee Vasilenko), Las Vegas, formerly of Sharpsville, PA, passed away at Nathan Adelson Hospice on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. She was 90. She was born November 14, 1926 in Sharpsville, one of five children of George and Maria Vasilenko. Irene graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1945. Soon after she began her career with Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania, and worked her way up to supervisor. Irene loved playing cards and was a master at Mah-jongg, Kings in the Corner and Penny Cards. She was a gourmet chef and baker extraordinaire. Her penchant for creativity was also seen in arts and crafts and knitting. She won first, second and third place ribbons for her afghans. When a loved one was getting married or moving into a new home or having a baby, she gifted them a handmade afghan always ensuring they were knit perfectly. She volunteered for many years, including as president, for the Southwest Osteopathic Hospital Ladies’ Guild. One of her favorite pastimes was reading anything and everything she could get her hands on. More than anything she loved her family. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Riggleman of Las Vegas and her husband David; a granddaughter, Gillian Riggleman, and a grandson Tom Riggleman, both of Las Vegas. Her surviving sibling is Helen Yusko and husband Ed of Florida, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents George and Maria Vasilenko, her husband Dr. Clyde Cole Henry, and her siblings Michael Vasilenko, Steve Vasilenko and Ann Kerlek. The family is tremendously grateful for the compassionate care she received at Summerlin Hospital ICU and Nathan Adelson Hospice Northwest. There will be a celebration of her life at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 8901 Del Webb Boulevard, Las Vegas on December 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. She will be laid to rest at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hermitage, PA.
