Obituary of Matthew Edwin London

Matthew Edwin London Sr, age 84, of Las Vegas, NV died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena Campus of Henderson, NV. Matthew was born October 16, 1931 in East Chicago, IN. He was the son of the late Nathaniel and Antoinette London. Matthew was preceded in death by 5 brothers,3 sisters and 2 sons Kevin and Leslie London. Matthew married Helen Denson on March 29, 1953. He attended East Chicago Washington High School in East Chicago, Indiana and he also attended Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, Indiana. Matthew served in the Army from 01/15/1955 to 12/12/1955. He was employed by Inland Steel in East Chicago, Indiana, where he started as a Boiler washer and retired as a Millwright Mechanic. He worked for 34 years at Inland Steel. Matthew played football in High School. When he was younger, he was involved with social change and activism. He was a scout leader and coached Maywood little league. Matthew was active in the church and city politics. He enjoyed camping, traveling the states and being with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed music and reading a good book. Matthew was a member of the Knights of Pythias. He was Honorably discharged from the US Army; he was a devoted and faithful husband for 63 years. He is survived by his wife: Helen (Denson) London ; Children: Matthew (Annette) London Jr, Vallejo, Ca; Wade (Nancy) London, Lake In The Hills, IL; Wanda London, San Diego, CA; Glenn (Alice) London, St. Antonio, TX; Tainia (Gregory) Gillis, East Chicago, IN; Darnell London, Los Angeles, CA; Dawn Smoot, Las Vegas, NV; Rosalee Edwards, Cousin; Sister-in-law, Nancy Meekins; Niece: Vanessa (John) Nathan; Niece: Marsha (Eddie) Lewis. Matthew had 12 grandchildren, a host many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews Cherished best friend, Howard Hernandez. The visitation will be held at 3pm on Saturday, September 3, at Kraft Sussman Funeral Services located at 3975 S. Durango Dr., Las Vegas, Nevada Presentation of Honors will start at 4pm funeral to follow after flag presentation. Pastor Leonard Grim officiating. Interment to be announced at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery, Gary, Indiana.
