Biography
John Miner was a man who loved Las Vegas. He was a Vegas native born in 1945, his father Garland Miner, also well-known in town for his restaurant, Papa Gar's, a popular place to eat amongst everyone from Las Vegas locals to former US Presidents. John grew up in Vegas and attended Las Vegas High School, later graduating from UNLV and excelling to become an accountant with Haskins and Sells (now Deloitte). In his time as an accountant, John worked for Howard Hughes himself and continued to work for the Hughes Corporation after Hughes' death in 1976. John's dream of running a casino came true when he was offered a position as General Manager at the Frontier Hotel and Casino. He ultimately became a pioneer for the gaming industry in Las Vegas, developing gaming regulations in Atlantic City and other Nevada jurisdictions and serving as General Manager of the Stardust Hotel and Casino for 15 years. Other properties and companies John worked for in Las Vegas include The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, Bally's and Tropicana Hotel and Casino. John continues to be a pillar of Las Vegas history who has worked and managed in almost every angle of the gaming industry, but in addition to all the profound contributions he made to this city - he was a beloved husband, and he was a devoted father. He will be loved and missed, always.
John is survived by his wife Deborah Miner, children Jordan Miner, Ariana Miner and Cody Miner, and sisters Darlene Vigil and Jeannie Rupprecht.
